Knightsbridge Academy Ethical Commitment to Cadaveric Surgical Training
At Knightsbridge Academy, we are committed to delivering the highest standards in postgraduate medical and dental education. Our cadaveric surgical training courses are designed to enhance the anatomical knowledge and surgical skills of healthcare professionals in a manner that is respectful, ethical, and legally compliant.
1. Respect for Donors and Human Dignity
We recognise that anatomical training using human cadavers is a privilege made possible by the altruistic gift of individuals who have donated their bodies for the advancement of education and healthcare. We are committed to honouring their legacy by ensuring:
-
Respectful and dignified treatment of all human tissue and remains.
-
Strict adherence to donor consent terms, including any specific conditions or limitations.
-
Maintaining the anonymity and confidentiality of all donors.
2. Compliance with Legal and Regulatory Standards
Knightsbridge Academy ensures that all cadaveric training activities are carried out in accordance with:
-
The Human Tissue Act 2004 (UK), which governs the use of human tissue for anatomical examination.
-
The guidelines of the Human Tissue Authority (HTA), including those relating to consent, traceability, and storage.
-
Any relevant international, national, or local laws and ethical standards in regions where training is conducted outside the UK.
We only partner with HTA-licensed venues or their international equivalents. We do not store, handle, or transport human tissue independently.
3. Institutional Partnerships
All cadaveric courses organised by Knightsbridge Academy take place at licensed anatomical centres, where:
-
Cadavers are managed by qualified and authorised staff.
-
Dissections and surgical procedures are conducted in a controlled, hygienic, and supervised environment.
-
All health, safety, and infection control measures are strictly followed.
4. Participant Conduct and Education
All course participants are required to:
-
Attend a mandatory ethics briefing prior to course participation.
-
Sign a code of conduct outlining respectful behaviour, use of equipment, and confidentiality.
-
Refrain from taking photographs, videos, or any identifying material from the dissection area, unless explicitly permitted.
Our faculty members are trained in both the clinical and ethical dimensions of surgical teaching using cadavers.
5. Educational Purpose
Cadaveric surgical training is delivered solely for:
-
Postgraduate professional development,
-
Improved patient care, and
-
Advancement of anatomical and clinical knowledge.
We do not permit any use of cadaveric material outside the scope of the approved educational programme.
Knightsbridge Academy upholds the highest ethical principles in all educational activities involving human tissue. We are grateful to all individuals and families who contribute to the advancement of medical and dental science through body donation, and we honour their generosity through our unwavering commitment to ethical practice.
